Wellness Corner 25: Dr. Borba’s Coping Strategies
Hey Falcons,
I hope you had a relaxing fall break! This past week we had the chance to hear from Dr. Michele Borba, who shared many different coping strategies for stress. Four that resonated with me were:
identifying stress, its signs, and your stressors is the first step to dealing better with life (friends, family, teachers, even affinity groups)
finding people who you can count on — your “glue people”
using the Navy SEALs’ strategy of deep breathing, whether that’s through box breaths or inhaling for one count and exhaling for two.
using positive self-talk when you doubt yourself or your abilities
I’m sharing these not just because I thought they were great but also so that you, my fellow Kinkaid community members, can hold me to them. Because commiting to change is key to self-improvement.
Let’s all try to find the best way we can cope with the various stressors life throws our way. I also encourage you to check out Dr. Borba’s latest book, Thrivers: The Surprising Reasons Why Some Kids Struggle and Others Shine.
Stay well,
Eshaan
