Wellness Corner 32: Keeping Your Resolutions

Hey Falcons,

Happy New Year! For the first Wellness Corner of 2023, let’s talk about resolutions. I’m sure each of you have vowed to do/not do something. You say, "that's it, no more junk food from today,” or “this year, I’m going to read more.” Except, the very next week, you find yourself downing slice after slice of cake…and the seven books you bought over break are lying in a corner, untouched.

Most people don't follow their resolutions because it's easy to go back to old ways. It takes effort to make change. And in the case of New Year’s resolutions, there are no immediate consequences of not following through!

This is where putting a little bit of pressure on yourself can be a game-changer. Tell everyone about the goal you're committing to. Canadian writer Robin Sharma calls this making a public pledge in his book. For example, if you’re planning to go to the gym each day, tell everybody.

Why does this improve your chances of success? Simply put, it’s the weight of expectation. You'll think before just taking up a resolution so you can tell others “Hey my resolution is going super well!” when they ask. By publicly pledging our commitment to our goals, we can make real change happen. Let’s go all in and do this together!

Wishing you all a great 2023!

Stay well, and know that your Falcon Family is always here for you,

Eshaan
